is there anybody out there? i am still alive! still trying to avoid getting covid. still chronically ill. adopted two kittens. started writing fanfic again, about the bbc crime show Silent Witness of all things. rewatching Fringe and The X-Files. participated in democracy again today.
edited to add: the guy in my icon is the japanese figure skater yuzuru hanyu because i also became an active figure skating fan since you last saw me here.

Date: 2022-11-09 02:02 am (UTC)I’m recently obsessed with Interview with the Vampire on AMC. Never read the books, but the show is the proudly gay vampire romance we all deserve!

Date: 2022-11-09 02:08 am (UTC)i have not been anywhere, because i am still mostly isolating. which is bananas.
glad to hear you’re doing better, although brain fog is no joke, i know.
i have not watched IWTV yet because i’m still trying to ascertain whether my spouse will watch it with me. but i am looking forward to it! (i did read the books when i was a teenager.)

Date: 2022-11-09 02:21 am (UTC)IwtV is pushing all my lapsed-Catholic buttons HARD. It’s gorgeous and over-the-top and campy and funny and moving and ridiculous. The cast is amazing and Louis is BEAUTIFUL and he owns my soul. The worst part is that season 1 is only 7 episodes. I want 200 more!

Date: 2022-11-09 02:50 am (UTC)if you have lapsed catholic buttons, have you watched Evil? my lapsed catholic husband calls it “the catholic x-files.” and it stars the beautiful mike colter as a hot priest (in training) who investigates cases of demon possession.

Date: 2022-11-09 07:37 pm (UTC)i have never watched strictly come dancing but i went through a period years ago where i was obsessed with all forms of So You Think You Can Dance.
the last time i watched the west wing was in 2016 before trump was elected. it’s felt like maybe watching it since would be like ribbing salt in the wound?

Date: 2022-11-10 05:13 pm (UTC)Yes! Well, it has been for over a year. I keep hoping 'being careful' will mean something different after this winter and my own situation changes, but so many have moved on to pretending it never happened!
Strictly = autumn/winter for me, and is interesting as a mass fannish experience. FWIW, I started rewatching The West Wing in early 2021, but then again, the UK has had three Prime Ministers since I've been rewatching season 4.

Date: 2022-11-10 06:03 pm (UTC)(I also went on a weird early 2000s rewatch kick during covid. I couldn't handle anything beyond procedurals or older shows, ReGenesis, MI-5, The Wire, Wire in the Blood, The West Wing and, more recently, Justified and Peaky Blinder. Something about knowing where it's headed and not getting blindsighted while still having the feelings?)

Date: 2022-11-10 11:53 pm (UTC)and yeah, i’ve also been rereading a lot of books too. that way i’m not running the risk of reading things i won’t like. but i think it’s more than that—even new things i enjoy are not as restful.
i’ve been reading plenty of new non-fiction for research, but that’s different somehow.

Date: 2022-11-11 12:57 am (UTC)I have this entire theory about the pleasures of rereading that I gave at a conference on Spoilers. I was a tad out of place there--I spoil myself on purpose!!! :)
